Course Description:

Water Efficiency Trends in Golf Course Management explores current strategies, research priorities, and best management practices for reducing water use in golf course landscapes while maintaining turf quality, playability, and long-term site performance. The course introduces landscape architects to the role of efficient irrigation systems, reduced irrigated acreage, turfgrass selection, water budgeting, WaterSense partnerships, and large-scale research efforts that support more sustainable golf course design and management. Emphasis is placed on how water conservation strategies can be integrated into golf course planning, renovation, and landscape management decisions.

 

Learning objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify major water efficiency trends affecting golf course design, maintenance, and landscape management.
  2. Describe how irrigation technology, water budgeting, and system auditing can reduce unnecessary water use.
  3. Explain the role of turfgrass selection, reduced irrigated acreage, and sustainable playing conditions in conserving water resources.
