Course Description:

This course focuses on scale insect pests affecting trees and woody ornamentals, covering detection, identification, prevention, and control strategies.  Attendees will learn to detect and identify scale insects, including their distinctive features such as cottony ovisacs and crawlers. Prevention and control strategies, including cultural controls and pesticide usage, will be explored to effectively manage scale infestations. 

Additionally, the course provides insights into common toxic plants found in forest fields and landscapes, with a particular focus on five members of the Apiaceae or carrot family. Attendees will learn to identify these plants, understand their range, and explore methods for removal and control. Throughout the course, attendees will gain valuable knowledge to identify and manage scale insect pests and toxic plants, ensuring the health and safety of tree and ornamental landscapes.
