Course Description and Credit Information
This lecture gives an overview of the study of periodic plant and animal life cycle events and how these are influenced by seasonal and inter annual variations in climate, as well as habitat factors. In addition, it will provide statistical details on how our planet is changing, mainly the effects of global warming and climate change. Also, an in depth discussion of an online platform that allows volunteer and professional observers to find a specific site/land and enables plant and animal activity tracking which then gathered information is being uploaded to the national database. Lastly, the webinar will also showcase the process on how the phenology network was constructed.
Learning Objectives:
1. Increase knowledge about the recurring plant and animal life-cycle stages and their timing and relationships with weather and climate.
2. Be taught on the importance of having a database of the ecosystem changes and/or trends to monitor vegetation together with insect and animal activity.
3. Grasp a better understanding on how we can contribute data on different projects and campaigns to validate and construct models for the phenology network.
