Course Description:

This course explores the multifaceted relationship between humans and white-tailed deer, particularly in urban and suburban settings.  Attendees will delve into the historical context of white-tailed deer populations in North America. Through a combination of lecture material, case studies, and visual aids, attendees will analyze the impact of changing landscapes, urbanization, and conservation efforts on deer populations. The course will also investigate the ecological and socioeconomic consequences of human-deer conflicts, addressing topics such as habitat destruction, property damage, and wildlife management strategies. By the end of the course, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the complex interactions between humans and white-tailed deer in contemporary urban and suburban environments.

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will understand the historical fluctuations in white-tailed deer populations in North America, from pre-colonization to the present day, and the factors contributing to these changes.
