Course Description and Credit Information

Course Description:

In this course, participants will learn about the various pests threatening hemlock trees and the unique habitats they support for wildlife. Additionally, integrated control strategies, encompassing both biological and chemical methods, will be explored. It also includes insights into hemlock forest restoration efforts, highlighting instances of hemlock resistance to HWA. Following this, the significance and control of other hemlock pests, such as the elongated hemlock scale, rust diseases, tip blight, and mites, will be discussed.

The course also highlights the symptoms of infestation, including yellowing and dropping needles, often starting at the lower branches and spreading upward. The occurrence of mixed pest populations, particularly alongside hemlock woolly adelgid, is discussed, providing insights into effective management approaches.
