Course Description and Credit Information

Course Description:

This course provides an in-depth exploration of biopesticides and mycoinsecticides, focusing on their various categories, active ingredients, applications, and regulatory considerations. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the benefits, challenges, and regulatory frameworks associated with these alternative pest control methods in agriculture. Through case studies and real-world examples, learners will examine the role of biopesticides and mycoinsecticides in integrated pest management strategies and their potential impact on human health and the environment.

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will understand the three basic categories of biopesticides: biochemical pesticides, microbial pesticides, and plant-incorporated protectants (PIPs), including examples of each and their respective modes of action.

2. Attendees will analyze the benefits of using biopesticides, including reduced risk of pest resistance development, exemption from tolerances, and shorter pre-harvest intervals and reentry intervals compared to conventional pesticides.

3. Attendees will explore the regulatory requirements for biopesticides in the United States, including oversight by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the Biopesticide and Pollution Prevention Division
