Course Description and Credit Information

Course Description:

The course "Evaluating Ecosystem Services with Remote Sensing" provides an in-depth exploration of assessing and evaluating ecosystem services using remote sensing techniques. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the concept of ecosystem services, including ecosystem accounting and the global frameworks and initiatives aimed at assessing the value of ecosystems. The course will focus on the application of Earth Observations (EO) and data products for ecosystem assessments, leveraging remote sensing technologies to quantify and analyze ecosystem services. Participants will also learn about modeling tools, such as the Natural Capital Project's Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST) and Artificial Intelligence for Environment and Sustainability, for natural capital accounting.

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will understand the concept of ecosystem services and its importance in sustainable development.

2. Attendees will analyze the valuation of specific ecosystem services, such as native pollinators, coral reefs, and urban ecosystems.

3. Attendees will learn about the remote sensing techniques for quantifying and monitoring ecosystem services.
