Course Description and Credit Information

Course Description:

The effects of climate change have become increasingly alarming over the past decade, what with the previous wildfires in various forests including the Pacific Northwest. This presentation discusses what solutions have already been set in motion to mitigate climate change and what solutions we are now setting in motion. What has worked so far? What hasn't? What are the design trends taking place now to mitigate and/or adapt to climate change?

These design trends affect all the areas that landscape architects design. Some of the most impacted areas are areas at the water's edge where increasing storms and flooding are becoming a regular occurrence. This demands design changes.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will learn about climate change in both global and local areas.

2. Participants will learn how climate change trends have affected the design trends in the recent past and how it is affecting design trends.

3. Participants will learn what design changes have been implemented and what design changes are being implemented now to mitigate/adapt to climate change.
