Course Description and Credit Information
This webinar will show research findings on Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) contamination associated with coal-tar-based sealants and implications for environmental and human health. In addition, it will explain how these sealants are an important. PAHs are increasing in urban lakes and streams. PAHs have effects on aquatic biota, ecological communities, and human health. From the single family residence coal-tar sealant, parking lots, to full highways, the understanding of the impact on water and human health and the users of the site. Research now shows how PAHs are showing up in the human body through its integration with the water cycle, and through air contamination. Landscape architects need to understand how this can be impacting surface water on site, and how something as simple as a parking lot specified near a playground can cause health damage.
Learning Objectives:
1. View research findings on Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) contamination associated with coal-tar-based sealants and implications for environmental and human health
2. Comprehend how these sealants are an important source of PAH exposure for children
3. Understand how adjacent sites designed and protected by landscape architects are impacted by the pavement sealant.
