Course Description and Credit Information

Course Description:

This webinar discusses design collaboration where each team member brings skills to the table but the process is open for each person to comment on other's contributions and each person is open to changing their opinions and design in response to the new idea. This open process results in a design that neither person would have designed. Collaboration from a tree-based and a design-based perspective is discussed concerning tree planting and design within an urban environment. Tree-based perspective uses fundamental first principles for trees and the design-based perspective uses fundamental first principles for the design. Case Studies are presented that demonstrate the collaborative process within designs and how landscape architects plant trees in the city.

Questions are discussed including: Do landscape architects need to collaborate? Do they know enough about soil or do they need to collaborate? Have we changed the way we plant trees as site conditions have changed? Examples discussed during this webinar include the planting of Allees and Bosques.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand how collaboration can happen within the design context

2. Comprehend how the collaboration happened within the case studies presented

3. Comprehend how tree plantings within the urban environment often require collaboration and how this can be implemented.
