Course Description and Credit Information
Course Description:
This course introduces landscape architects to right-of-way revegetation, environmental data planning, and soil health practices for disturbed landscapes. Using North Dakota reclamation examples, participants examine the Strategic Environmental Data Stack initiative, plant community impacts, fire and flood modeling, pipeline revegetation seed mixes, reclamation suitability mapping, disturbance response groups, erosion reduction, soil biology, cover crops, grazing considerations, and short- and long-term soil recovery goals. The course supports stronger planning for utility corridors, energy projects, grasslands, and post-construction restoration.
Learning objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain how environmental data systems support reclamation and restoration planning.
- Identify how disturbance response groups guide right-of-way seeding decisions.
- Describe how soil health practices reduce erosion and support biological recovery.
- Apply revegetation, monitoring, and soil health concepts to disturbed landscapes.
