Course Description and Credit Information

Course Description:

This course explores equitable climate resilience through urban watershed partnerships, community engagement, water-quality monitoring, and applied urban ecology. Using the USGS Urban Climate Adaptation Symposium and EPA Urban Waters Federal Partnership as the foundation, the course examines how agencies, local partners, and communities collaborate to restore urban waters and improve environmental outcomes. Case examples include the Patapsco Watershed/Baltimore region, Stillmeadow Community Fellowship’s resilience hub work, and Harlem River monitoring efforts near Roberto Clemente State Park and Bridge Park South. Participants will learn how relationship-building, data collection, water-quality monitoring, technical support, and community-centered planning can guide climate adaptation and watershed restoration. For landscape architects, the course supports more informed approaches to urban resilience, environmental justice, green infrastructure, habitat planning, and community-based ecological design.
