Course Description:

Using simple construction methods with the use of flat sheets of fabric as formwork molds for reinforced concrete construction, CAST (Centre for Architectural Structures and Technology) produces new architectural and structural forms. This course presents several ways to create beautiful and unique structural forms with a sleight of hand and the use of simple tools and methods, which result in a substantial reduction in the consumption of building materials when it comes to concrete construction.

Prof. Mark West also presents examples and case studies in this presentation so that participants can understand how certain concrete fabric installations were created and how it benefit not only the building owners but also the community.

Learning Objectives:

1. Know the purposes and benefits of installing concrete fabric.

2. Understand the methods and processes in molding concrete fabric.

3. Learn how concrete fabric can best be used for the health safety, and welfare of the public.
