Course Description and Credit Information

Course Description:

Seattle's streets account for 27 percent of the city's land. They provide both vital transportation and utility linkages necessary for the city to grow and thrive. The design of these streets can enhance community connections that improve economic vitality and provide healthy choices for residents.

This course discusses street and road safety, the challenges, and policies that address common issues such as traffic, risks, and development. Presented are case studies and street design samples to better understand the processes behind the development and how such designs work.

Learning Objectives:

1. To know more about the latest developments in the city’s streets which may also be applicable in other cities around the country.

2. Understand how street safety matters and how it benefits the public.

3. Learn how to design and manage safe streets and develop a livable community.
