Course Description and Credit Information

Course Description:

British Columbia's forests and forestry products have a large impact on provincial emissions, through both their ability to store and release carbon into the atmosphere. This course discusses the opportunities to manage forests and wood products with the goal reducing emissions, and how climate change impacts could interact with carbon-focused forest management goals.

Forest carbon research improves our understanding of the role of Canada’s forests in climate change. This understanding is required to develop climate mitigation and adaptation strategies in the forest sector. It is an important component of overall global carbon cycle science, which is needed to help us understand global change and predict future climate conditions.

The course features temperature and land use data that can help countries to map out systems useful in reducing gas emissions and curb the numbers to address climate change.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand how the current data can help reduce climate change.

2. Learn the ways that can help reduce gas emissions in the Earth’s atmosphere.

 3. Enable awareness among planners, decision makers, and government and private agencies on the current status of the Earth’s climate and act on it with policies and projects.
